This chapter examines the sexual and reproductive health status of women with intellectual impairments. It takes a developmental approach, examining the issues occurring early in the life of young women with intellectual impairments, including sex education, contraception abuse and the delicate balance between protection and paternalism. Within adulthood the chapter looks at the research available on the management of sexual and reproductive health and looks in detail at the research on the health outcomes for pregnant women with intellectual impairments and their off-spring. Later life for women with intellectual impairments is discussed within the context of inadequacies in health screening.
