The international dimension in higher education is moving from margin to centre and assumes a more comprehensive rather than fragmented approach. This relatively new phenomenon has only become apparent since the beginning of the 21st century, but its roots lie in several manifestations of increased international orientations from the previous century, in particular in the period following the Second World War until the end of the Cold War.
