This chapter discusses the distribution of NPs such as the following: 1

Reflexives such as herself and reciprocals such as each other are referentially dependent on another nominal (an antecedent).

Pronouns such as her lack descriptive content. They can be, but are not necessarily, referentially dependent.

Full Nps (R-expressions in Chomsky 1981) such as the actress are typically referentially independent, and descriptively richer than reflexives, reciprocals, or pronouns.
