Abstract

The San Francisco Bay Area is a robust, diversified regional economy, recently ranked as the nineteenth largest in the world (Randolph, 2012). We are a center of innovation, academia, medicine, finance, and scenic beauty. However, we are also in need of more investments in our community. We know our infrastructure is crumbling. Our housing stock is inadequate to meet the needs of our residents across all economic levels. Transportation is more problematic each year. We must address water, power, and technology infrastructure upgrades for our region to thrive. We need to invest more in our own backyard if we want to preserve our leadership positions and maintain a superior quality of life for everyone in the Bay Area. At the same time, the Bay Area is awash in money. We can channel some of those assets to local investments to promote sustainable and resilient prosperity in the Bay Area.
