Ridgeway (2009) argues that if we want to understand social behaviour and organisational structures, we have to understand gender and how it interacts with social processes. Ridgeway believes gender is a primary frame for organising social relations, hence the wonderful title of her article, ‘Framed Before We Know It: How Gender Shapes Social Relations’.
