One of the most enduring scientific questions in sexology concerns the origins of variation in human sexual orientation. Here I review in brief the evidence for biological involvement in sexual orientation (an area I have worked in for about 10 years). I will not have space to discuss the social and clinical implications of the biological findings. Suffice it to say that my view is that understanding the origins of sexual orientation is important and may be useful in initiatives to promote an appreciation and acceptance of sexual and gender diversity, either in therapy or more broadly in education and cultural awareness.
