Despite their different geographies and socio-political histories, all cities share transversal characteristics that define life in urban conditions, which include being complex and incomplete systems that deploy “the possibility of making—making the urban, the politic, the civic” (Sassen, 2013, p. 209). Contemporary global cities are affected by extensive institutionalization, surveillance and commercialization that put under attack such possibility of making and political transformation (Lefebvre, 2003; Sassen, 2013).
