In this chapter we review a selection of current research as a way to explore relations between the disciplines of mathematics education and educational psychology. We believe that we are entering a new and exciting phase in the relation between these two disciplines, where researchers are bringing the discipline of psychology to bear on problems in mathematics education in interesting ways that take seriously the realities of classroom teaching and learning. Stated somewhat differently, we believe that the field is beginning to conceptualize what an educational psychology of mathematics education might look like.
