Abstract

Up to 2007, the concept of ‘creative industries’ had not received the specific attention of Indonesian policy makers who were in charge of developing the industrial sector in macroeconomic policy. However, the country’s creative industries began to grow as the market increasingly demanded creative products and services. Realizing their potential, the Ministry of Trade then developed a road map in 2008 (Departemen Perdagangan 2009). This was the starting point for the Indonesian government’s policy in this area, which is concerned with facilitating the nation’s creative businesses and activities.
