Abstract

This chapter outlines ten years of incidents, events, and experiences related to intellectual property rights and fair use at The System of Virtual University (UDGVirtual), a virtual education center at the University of Guadalajara, Mexico. One of the key objectives of this chapter is to describe the legal and moral dilemmas associated with the wrong usage of academic resources, cases of plagiarism, and how this educational institutional has worked along this time to diminish these kinds of problems. The chapter describes how the quick technological shift in the field of information and communication has forced the organization to modify its academic policies concerning the use of copyrighted materials and how these guidelines have had a profound and determinant impact in the teaching–learning process.
