Abstract

As stated in the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, press freedom is a universal right. 1 However, states blatantly violate these obligations. The rights of journalists are infringed by restrictive regulations, manipulations of the media market, informal pressures and outright coercion. The degree of freedom in the reporting of print and broadcast media thus crucially depends on political context.
