Writing a short introduction to the philosophy of psychology is a difficult task. This is so for at least two reasons. First, psychology is a vast discipline. It includes social psychology, behavioral psychology, cognitive psychology, comparative psychology, artificial intelligence, neuro-psychology, and clinical psychology. Whether there is a common thread to these different areas of research is itself a philosophical question (Hatfield 2002).
