Abstract

This chapter examines the global approaches, processes and (policy) frameworks on disability and gender, focusing on similarities and differences over decades, their extent and how they intersect. It focuses on what might be learned by looking at the intersection, instead of each dimension separately, to improve and better implement various inclusive development initiatives. The chapter specifically focuses on Tanzania and it claims that the intersection of gender and disability requires more attention also elsewhere. The argument is that by analysing disability and gender together as intersecting issues in education, research can better inform policy and practice about critical factors in development toward equality and equity in the southern African region.
