Abstract

In this chapter, the authors approach aspects of formal and non-formal education for individuals with vision impairment (VI) or multiple disabilities and vision impairment (MDVI) by linking micro- and macro-perspectives. The micro-level approach refers to actions and interactions that are usually taking place within an educational setting, whereas the macro-level approach incorporates “global” level of interactions, which operate in broader contexts and have an impact on the population in question. In addition, principles of differentiation and universal design for learning were used, to encapsulate the intensive character of heterogeneity of learners with VI or MDVI. Finally, current technological, cultural, societal and political changes and challenges were taken into account to tackle the contemporary “educational landscape” within the dynamics of formal and non-formal education.
