This chapter argues that Asia is a region of intense and varied transnational migration. Transnational migrants in the low-skilled employment sector constitute a particularly vulnerable group in the countries where they reside as they are often excluded from fundamental rights and government services. This poses significant challenges and opportunities for civil society in promoting the rights of migrants. Migrant interest organizations (MIOs) in Asia are as diverse as the circumstances and needs of migrants of varying nationality, gender, educational background, ethnicity, and age.
