This chapter argues that the media can become a double-edge sword for civil societies. Building on two Asian case studies (India and China), this chapter argues that the urgency of regulating the media and the massive flow of information they spread is crucial to strengthening the positive dimensions of media–civil society relations. The restoration of integrity, defined as the promotion of values such as truthfulness and accuracy, emerges as the key variables to achieve this aim.
