The aim of this chapter is to present how students of social work can learn from first-hand experiences and recognise that experts by experience can be a valued contribution to changing existing social services as well as contribute to the increase in gaining competences for future social workers. The chapter is based on the assertion that involvement in the curriculum for future social workers by experts by experience mirrors the profession’s values of respect, partnership, co-creation and partnership. Research suggests that a change in culture within universities and academia is needed; inclusion in teaching requires the whole system to be adapted in order to “prepare” the field for new participants (in our experience, experts by experience).
