Abstract

This chapter begins by analyzing the general role of the mainstream media in relation to the Olympic industry and the specific coverage of Olympic-related issues in the period leading up to the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. I then investigate the development of alternative media, specifically independent media centers and other activist web sites organized by anti-Olympic and Olympic watchdog groups.
