Gender has not been the most popular research topic among surveillance scholars. Considering how well established the field of gender studies is, and how strongly surveillance studies has been embracing the study of concrete everyday issues, it is surprising that these fields have not been better integrated. The histories of (controlling) gender/sexualities and of surveillance are very much connected, and there is much to understand and discover about this topic.
