Abstract

The environmental education research field in Latin America is practically virgin. The few attempts made to find out what is currently being done have come from Mexico and Brazil, where efforts have been and are being made to promote educational research in the field on an institutional level. In other countries, this effort is limited to a few isolated institutions and researchers who, with rare exceptions, carry out research projects of limited viability due their policies not being specifically oriented toward the discipline. There is also the case of research done on the regional situation by Latin-American environmental educationalists working out of universities in developed countries. 1
