In this chapter I will provide an assessment and critique of the way in which mainstream conceptualization of pragmatic impairment has been implicitly determined by the use of taxonomies derived from linguistic theory and cognitive neuropsychology, which happen to be particularly suited to quantitative research paradigms, and will argue instead for the advantages of a data-driven qualitative approach.
