This chapter has been developed from a longitudinal study conducted over 12 months— from December 2010 to June 2012. The purpose of the research was to investigate how lecturers use mobile technology within a classroom setting. The technological basis for this study is the Apple iPad tablet, five of which were given to academics at an Australian university, with no instruction or guidelines for their use. This chapter examines the practical outcomes from the study, and the learning that has taken place, in order to arrive at some insights into managing mobile technology in the classroom. This chapter also develops a personal-development strategy for academics in the digital age.
