Gender is shorthand to capture a diverse range of scholarship that address gender relations, identities, inequalities, differences and the cluster of experiences, identifications, discourses, histories and forms of subjectivity that intersect with the category or sign of “gender.” Gender has always been, and remains, an over-determined signifier, a key word in contemporary culture, which is often called upon to perform much analytic and descriptive work.
