Abstract

The knowledge and skills about which principals must become proficient in order to lead meaningful change are related to the tenets of social justice. When the National Institute on Leadership, Disability and Students Placed at Risk (NILDSPAR) was founded in 2005 at the University of Vermont, teams comprised of faculty members in Educational Leadership collaborated to develop instructional modules for use in training a new kind of educational leader. These modules can be adapted for students who aspire to the principalship and superintendency to prepare school leaders with the skills and dispositions needed to educate students with disabilities, as well as those placed at-risk.
