Abstract

The recent emergence of various types of nanoparticles has enabled engineers and scientists to improve the performance of adhesives and the resulting bonded joints significantly. As a result, new breeds of nanocomposites with remarkable mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties have been generated in recent years. However, the endeavor has not been without significant challenges. For instance, the production cost of such nanocomposites and the effort (and cost) associated with uniform dispersion of nanoparticles (NPs) within adhesives are some of the challenges with which developers of such nanocomposites are still grappling.
