Abstract

When you have successfully completed this lesson, you should:

Recognize that the employee’s problem is the supervisor’s problem since whatever concerns the employee may well affect the work situation.

Recognize the signs of emotional problems related to various employees such as

The worried employee

The problem employee

The accident-prone employee

The alcoholic employee

The older employee

The conceited employee

The sensitive employee

The stubborn employee.

Understand that absenteeism is a sign of problems the employee has or of the relationship the employee has with work or family.

Know that the supervisor can help an employee solve a problem either through direct counseling or through referral.

Be able to evaluate an employee’s problems and to help the employee begin to make necessary changes.

Be able to determine that there is a problem but unable to determine either the cause or the method of dealing with it and then know to whom to send the employee for further counseling, according to the company guidelines.
