The development of newer pulmonary drug delivery devices is the requisite of current time and high in demand in modern clinical practice. At present, the principle of drug targeting strategy incorporates direct lung administration, generally by inhalation therapy, utilizing either dry powder inhalers (DPI) or pressurized metered-dose inhalers (MDI). To introduce an adequate dose of drug to the lungs requires appropriate drug carriers and/or transporters, and the available studies in this regard are very limited. The use of inhaler devices is increasing day by day for the treatment of patients suffering from chronic pulmonary diseases. Furthermore, the selection of inhaler devices is mainly dependent on well-designed and patient-friendly technologies involved in making of these devices.
