Abstract

The swift progress of nanotechnology in current years has energized flourishing attention in the area of nanoparticle research, specifically, its application in the medical field. The application of nanotechnology for the management of cancer is primarily relying on early tumor detection as well as diagnosis with nanodevices capable of discriminative targeting and delivering chemotherapeutical agents to the exact tumor site. Currently, there seems to be increased attention to the application of gold nanoparticles to the therapy of cancer, covering identification, monitoring, and therapy of the ailment thanks to the extraordinary properties of gold nanoparticles. These properties consist of a high surface area to volume ratio, surface chemistry and multi-functionalization, surface plasmon resonance, facile production, and steady nature. A variety of inventive strategies with gold nanoparticles are in the pipeline. In this chapter, we provide an overview of the remarkable properties of gold nanoparticles and recent progress made in the application of gold nanoparticles in the treatment of lung and liver cancer by tumor sensing, imaging, drug delivery, and photothermal and photodynamic treatment.
