Abstract

Advances in the field of nanotechnology, especially with regards to polymeric formulations has paved the way for promising and successful therapeutics for lung disease through pulmonary delivery. Polymeric nano-particulate drug delivery systems are appealing as they have unique properties and tailored to suit pulmonary therapeutic needs usually administered through a non-invasive route. Inhalational drug delivery of polymeric nanoparticles is beneficial in current targeted delivery approaches and has an advantages over the traditional drug systems. The use of varied polymer nano-particulate drug delivery system applications in physicochemical characterization, modified release, enhancement of pharmacokinetic profiles, therapeutic efficacy, and in providing promising strategies is remarkable for the delivery of therapeutics and treatment of emerging and existing lung disease. This Chapter focuses on the recent developments in the field of nanotechnology, highlighting the inspiring strategies with the use of polymeric nanoparticles in providing solutions for the treatment of lung disease.
