A high accuracy and speed method (YUE-HASM) for earth surface modeling has been developed to find solutions for relative problems of earth surface simulation such as too big error, slow computational speed, and large memory requirement. YUE-HASM is operated by taking global approximate information (e.g., remote sensing images or model simulation results) as its driving field and local accurate information (e.g., ground observation data or sampling data) as its optimum control constraints. This entry reviews the developing process of YUE-HASM and describes how the problems were solved one by one. Principles and applications of YUE-HASM are summarized in general.
